Snap has launched Pixy, a pocket-sized flying camera. Pixy was unveiled at Snap’s Partner Summit, and is described as a ‘free-flying sidekick that’s a fit for adventures big and small.’
Pixy flies in four pre-set flight paths. It can float, orbit, and follow wherever you lead, without a controller or any set-up. And, Pixy finds its home in your hand, landing gently at the end of the flight.
Pixy is a companion to Snapchat. Videos from flights are wirelessly transferred and saved into Snapchat Memories. From there, use Snapchat’s editing tools, Lenses, and Sounds to customize what you capture.
With a few taps, you can automatically crop into portrait and apply quick Smart Edits, like Hyperspeed, Bounce, Orbit 3D and Jump Cut. Then, share to Chat, Stories, Spotlight, or any other platform.
Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap, said:
‘Everything you need to capture the spontaneity and fun of the moment from new perspectives is right in the palm of your hand. With the simple tap of a button, Pixy takes flight and joins you on your journey.’
Speaking at Snap’s Partner Summit, Spiegel explained why Snap decided to develop the flying camera.
‘We first created Snapchat as a new way to use the Camera for self-expression and communication From Lenses to Spectacles, there are so many ways to share your perspective.’
Today, we’re taking the power and magic of the Snap Camera — the spontaneity, the joy, and the freedom — to new heights.
‘A new camera to match the limitless potential of your imagination. Meet Pixy. The world’s friendliest flying camera.’
Pixy is available for pre-order now for buyers in the United States and France, “while supplies last”. However, Snap has estimated that purchasers will face an 11-12-week wait before the product ships.
