Google has released a huge upgrade to Hangouts for iOS, overhauling the design, improving performance, and bringing full iPad support, among other things.
Hangouts 2.0 new design puts four tabs at the bottom of the screen: Contacts, Favourites, Hangouts, and Calls. Swiping across an existing Hangout brings up four options: Favourite, Video, Mute and Archive.
It’s easy to initiate a video chat with one or many people now, while voice calls gets its own tab.
On the iPad front, Hangouts is fully optimized, including support for picture-in-picture messaging.
