BlackBerry opens up Beta Zone to third party developers

BlackBerry have announced that they have opened up the BlackBerry Beta Zone to third party developers.

The BlackBerry Beta Zone has always been a bit of a disappointment with apps appearing near the end of their beta phase. It has also been a little scarce with not many apps being available for testing.

BlackBerry are hoping that opening up the beta zone to third party developers will improve matters.

We are pleased to announce that BlackBerry developers are now able to beta test their BlackBerry 10 apps through Beta Zone. Very soon you will start to see new “Third Party” beta programs available to you, which will be posted and fully managed by the developers themselves.

We are quite excited about this and expect that it will go a long way towards improving the quality of the apps available to you in BlackBerry World. We hope that you too are just as excited as we are, and that you will provide developers with the same amazing level of support and quality feedback that you have provided to BlackBerry over the years.

The first two third party apps, WhatsApp Messenger and WeatherTrax, are currently available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

For developers, developing for BlackBerry 10, this should give them an avenue for a lot more feedback as they develop their apps.

For end users, you should see more BlackBerry 10 apps in the BlackBerry Beta Zone app for testing.[signoff predefined=”Enjoy this?” icon=”icon-users”][/signoff]
