ASUS announce Transformer Book V, a Windows hybrid laptop with a detachable Android smartphone

The Asus Transformer Book V is a Windows and Android tablet, a Windows and Android laptop, and an Android phone all rolled into one

Asus has just announced the Asus Transformer Book V at Computex in Taipei.

The device has a 12.5 inch screen for use as a laptop/tablet running Windows 8.1.

Under the hood is an Intel Core CPU with 4GB of RAM on board. 1TB of native storage is included on the Windows side of the equation, with the hard drive found embedded inside the QWERTY keyboard.

When the phone is docked, the tablet can also be powered by Android. Using Google’s open source OS to power the slate gives you storage of 128GB. The Android phone on the Book V features 2GB of RAM and 64GB of its own native storage.

The phone carries back and front-facing cameras of 8MP and 2MP respectively, and is a pretty hefty 11mm thick. The handset has a 2500mAh battery to keep the lights on and Android 4.4 comes pre-installed.

The Android phone is driven by the 64-bit quad-core Moorefield Atom chip with LTE.
