Apple confirms iPhone Touchscreen Display module issues

Apple launches iPhone 11 a replacement program

Apple has confirmed that “a small percentage of iPhone 11 displays may stop responding to touch due to an issue with the display module.” The company has announced a replacement program and confirmed that affected devices were manufactured during a six-month period between November 2019 and May 2020.

Apple didn’t put a number to its “small percentage” but with almost 40M iPhone 11 units sold between January and June 2020, a small percentage can add up to millions of units. If your iPhone 11 is exhibiting touch response issues, you can enter its serial number on the replacement program page to check whether it is eligible for repair.

Eligible iPhone 11 units can be repaired either by an authorized Apple service provider, an official retail store or via the company’s mail-in repair service. Apple states:

“If your iPhone 11 has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.”

What this means is that if you thought this was a chance to get your cracked iPhone 11 screen repaired for free, think again. If you send in an affected iPhone 11 with even small cracks in the display, be prepared to receive a bill for its replacement as part of the touchscreen repair process. This is a free service only for the touchscreen issue.

However, Apple notes that “If you believe your iPhone 11 was affected by this issue, and you paid to repair your device, you can contact Apple about a refund.”
