Oasis‘ seven studio albums & five compilation albums are now available in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos on Apple Music.
Grammy-winning engineer Ryan Hewitt was commissioned by the band’s Big Brother Recordings Ltd. label to re-create the mixes from scratch, spending 18 months on the project.
“Honouring the original mixes, and the original intention of the sound of these records, which are so loud and explosive, and transferring that to Dolby Atmos was one of the greatest challenges of my career,” Hewitt said.
“These records sounded big in the first place, and now they sound even bigger on Apple Music in Spatial Audio while honoring the original spirit of the recordings.”
Definitely Maybe has been available in Spatial Audio since September last year, when it was converted to celebrate its 30th anniversary. But this is the first time all of the other albums have been available in the format.
Hewitt talks more extensively about adapting every Oasis album into Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos on The Matt Wilkinson Oasis radio special, which is available now on Apple Music 1.
Spatial audio, Apple’s take on immersive 3D sound, has gained significant traction, using directional audio filters to create a surround sound experience through headphones, making it feel as if the music is coming from all around you.
Apple Spatial Audio was initially launched as part of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, and Apple released the newer Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos feature for Apple Music on the 7th June 2021 as part of the free iOS and iPadOS 14.6 software updates.
