BBM for Android

BBM for Android update brings video posts in Channels and more

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]BlackBerry have released an update to BBM for Android, bringing support for video posts in BBM Channels, a new post to feeds option and more.

Video in Feeds via Channel posts

Only BBM Channel owners can post video, but everyone can see them. Just click play and you can watch in full screen or in-feed. However, only BlackBerry could make the posting of video so absurd!!!

To upload video you must be a  BBM Channel owner and can only post from the CMC.  The feature is not yet implemented for mobile. Here’s the absurd part.  Copy and then paste the url  link of a video already uploaded to Vidio.com. You can then then edit title or description then post it to your channel.

Sharing  photos to Feeds

Users can can now take high quality photos and upload to feeds directly to share with your contacts. You no longer need to update your avatar image to showcase your pictures.

To start sharing your photos:

  • Go to your Feed
  • Tap on the photo icon
  • Give BBM permission to access your phone’s camera, then select a photo, crop it, add a caption, and share.

BlackBerry has also added several improvements to the BBM interface.

  • Contacts will now display in a list layout by default, instead of a grid.
  • Scan Barcode is now an option in the main menu, allowing you to take a photo of barcodes and QR codes.
  • Channels icon in Discover menu gives you another way to access your Channels.
  • 25-second default for timed messages saves you one more decision when sending one, and gives your recipients ample time to read or view most messages. You can still chose to give them 1, 3, 5, 10 or 60 seconds.
  • Multiple person chats and Groups now require names, to help keep you sorted, and ensure you send the right messages to the right people.

Indonesia and Nigeria

BBM is obviously most popular in Indonesia and Nigeria and this is where a lot of region specific stuff is being implemented.  Indonesia users will see three new options in the Discover menu: BBM Game Center, BBM Pulsa/PLN and BBM Vouchers.

Meanwhile, Nigerian users will see Airtime Nigeria in Discover menu.

BBM brings you together in the moment with friends and family through instant chats, voice calls, picture sharing, voice notes and more.

Chat with friends on Android, BlackBerry and iPhone:

  • BBM is always on and always connected – no app to open
  • Know when messages have been delivered (D’s) and read (R’s)
  • Say ‘hello’ with BBM Voice – free voice calling between BBM Contacts
  • Quickly share photos, files, documents, voice notes and more
  • Allow contacts to view your location live on a map, powered by Glympse
  • See when contacts are responding to your message
  • Emoticons for every mood and emotion let you express yourself
