[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Creative Media Works has announced the latest update to BBM for Android, which brings further design enhancements, free custom pins and more.
Further design enhancements have been brough to the BBM chatlist, chat bubbles, voice notes and message delivery status.
For the kids, Creative has added the ability to share animated stickers for more interactive chats and to easily find stickers with search option and browse featured packs.
The option to selectively auto-download media by connection type (Wi-Fi/ cellular) has also been implemented.
Free Custom PINs
A while ago, an earlier beta of BBM included the ability for users to grab a free custom pin. However, this has never made it into any stable releases – until now.
The Custom PIN was previously a paid subscription feature found on BBM which allowed new and existing users to create their own personalized BBM PIN. New contacts can add you to BBM using this Custom PIN, making adding new contacts easier than ever. Quite simply, the subscription fee has now been dropped and has been made available free.
You can create your own custom PIN via the “Me” tab in BBM.
A Free Custom PIN must meet certain criteria to be eligible for creation:
- PINs need to be 6-8 characters long
- Can include both letters and numbers. PINs are not case sensitive.
- Special characters are not eligible
- Can’t already be in use by another user

BBM Video Chat System Requirements and Functionality
BlackBerry 10
- BlackBerry 10 OS required
- BlackBerry 10 smartphones are able to start BBM Video Chats to other BlackBerry 10 smartphones
- BBM Video Chat between BlackBerry 10 and Android or iOS devices is not supported and will provide the option for BBM Voice Chat
iOS
- iOS version 8 and later required
- iOS devices are able start BBM Video Chats between other iOS and Android OS devices
- When a BBM Video Chat is started on an iOS device to BlackBerry 10 smartphones, the call will change to a BBM Voice Chat
Android
- Android OS 4.4 (KitKat) and later required
- Android OS devices are able to start BBM Video Chats between other Android OS and iOS devices
- When a BBM Video Chat is started on an Android device to BlackBerry 10 smartphones, the call will change to a BBM Voice Chat
The following is also noted by BlackBerry
- Asus phones (and any mobile device using an Intel chipset) are currently not supported and will establish a BBM Voice Call
- Motorola Moto X (XT1092, XT1095, XT1096) and Lenovo Vibe X (S960) may see one way video, or poor video during a BBM Video Chat
