Back in 2015, BlackBerry and PayPal teamed up to introduce PayPal payments within BBM. PayPal has now informed users via email that the ability to send money with PayPal using BBM has been discontinued as of February 6, 2018.
Interestingly, there was no real integration going on here and the “service” simply loaded PayPal’s webpage within BBM (a web wrapper). Nothing technical or really exciting!
PayPal states that it has taken this decision based on “analysis” but does not specify what the results were of that analysis.
Whether that analysis showed low usage from within BBM is open to conjecture at the time of publishing.
The full email reads:
“PayPal is at all times evolving our buyer stories to make sure we’re turning in to you the highest merchandise and answers. As a results of our analysis, we now have determined to discontinue the ability to send money with PayPal using Blackberry Messenger (BBM), beginning February 6, 2018.
Thank you for using this carrier. There are nonetheless some ways to simply trade money between family and friends with PayPal, together with via the PayPal app on iOS and Android, cellular internet, PayPal.me, Facebook Messenger, Skype and extra.

As the email points out, users can still use the PayPal app on Android and iOS.
