Google has rolled out their “Tell me a story“ feature on Android and iOS. By simply saying “Hey Google, tell me a story.”, devices will read out stories (both regular and bedtime) in English to people in the UK, Australia, Canada, India and the US.
The available stories will vary, but you can get Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Let’s Be Firefighters! (Blaze and the Monster Machines), Robot Rampage (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), some Disney Little Golden Books like Coco, Toy Story 3, and Peter Pan.
Google state,
“Whether you’re on the way to school drop-off or waiting for soccer practice to start, you can hear stories like ‘Let’s Be Firefighters!’ (Blaze and the Monster Machines), ‘Robot Rampage’ (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and more.
To get started, just say, ‘Hey Google, tell me a story.’ If you’re trying to get the kids ready for bed after a long day, try, ‘Hey Google, tell me a bedtime story.’
In the US, Google is also promoting the “read along” feature of Assistant. With the feature, the virtual assistant makes things more interesting by adding sound effects here and there as parents read stories aloud to their kids.
The story selection includes titles from the Disney Little Golden Books, including Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Coco, Peter Pan, The Three Little Pigs, and Toy Story 3.
To activate it, users only have to say, “Hey Google, let’s read along” or “Hey Google, let’s read along with Disney.”
The stories do come from Google’s Play Book’s selection of free audiobooks, lasting about 10 minutes each. Parents are also able to read along by asking Google Assistant “Hey Google, let’s read along to…” and start reading with compatible storybooks.
