YouTube dark mode finally comes to Android

Dark Mode for the YouTube app on Android has finally started rolling out with a number of users beginning to see the feature appearing over the weekend. YouTube added a dark mode to its desktop site last year, and the company says that it became one of the most requested features for its apps.

YouTube Dark Mode allows you to switch from the bright white light of the standard app or website to a deep black that’s kinder on your eyes – particularly in a darkened room.

The update is showing up for users who are advising that the dark mode simply appeared when they opened the app. There is a manual toggle for dark mode if it’s not to your liking though which can be found under the ‘General’ tab under Settings.

The rollout is occurring in phases and there’s no timeframe that details when it will be completed. If you have received the update, the dark mode toggle can be accessed by navigating to Settings (by tapping on the user avatar) > General section of your Android device.
