BlackBerry have released an update to the BBM Channels web portal which brings the ability for channel managers to target specific audiences.
This is a long overdue addition, where channel managers have been screaming out for categorised articles for some time.
It’s not quite what they wanted but is a step in the right direction.
During posting, managers can select criteria for the article that they’d like to target and Channels will automatically show you the amount of selected users within the criteria that you are selecting.
When the article is posted, only those select users will be able to see the channel posting.
Channel Managers can set criteria by demographics, geo targeting and os platform.
Like a lot of BBM Channels, it is a great first step. However, this is purely for channel managers to select which of thier subscribed users they want to see an article. What is badly needed is the ability for subscribers to be able to select the criteria they wish to receive.
For example, some subscribers may want to read BlackBerry articles but never see iOS or Android articles.
