BlackBerry gave themselves a glimmer of hope during the last quarters results when they announced that they had signed a 5 year manufacturing agreement with Foxconn to create phones for emerging markets.
The first such device is the Jakarta which is supposed to be targeted at Indonesia and Malaysia as a low end device.
BGR is reporting today that the Jakarta is rumored to be a touchscreen only device.
Now competing with low-cost Android vendors in markets like Indonesia and Malaysia is a major task in its own right but if BlackBerry decide to make the first device all-touch then they really are taking a huge gamble.
Keyboard or no keyboard, BlackBerry simply have to get the price right on this device.  They completely overpriced existing BlackBerry 10 devices which no doubt has contributed to the shocking lack of sales on BlackBerry 10 devices.[signoff predefined=”Enjoy this?” icon=”icon-users”][/signoff]
