BlackBerry Priv Wins Red Dot Award for Product Design 2016

BlackBerry has announced that the BlackBerry Priv has won the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2016. Red Dot awarded Priv the Product Design award for high design quality.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most prestigious design awards worldwide and honors innovation, concepts and visions.  In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design in a professional manner, the Red Dot Design Award breaks down into the three disciplines of Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept.

The Red Dot Award was created by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and with around 17,000 entries each year is one of the best-respected design competitions in the world. In 2015, it is celebrating its 60th anniversary: It was in 1955 that a jury convened for the first time to assess the best designs of the day. The sought-after award, the “Red Dot”, is the revered international seal of outstanding design quality.

The Red Dot Gala will take place on Monday, 4 July 2016. During the glamorous awards ceremony in the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany, the winners of the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best” will be honoured.

BlackBerry has consistently been recognized by Red Dot for its outstanding work in design.  In 2013 Porsche Design won in the “Best of the Best” category for Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone and again for the BlackBerry Z10.

In 2015 BlackBerry earned three Red Dot Awards for the high design quality of its BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry Q5 and BlackBerry Z30 smartphones

In 2015, the BlackBerry Passport won Red Dot for its innovative design. Again in 2015, BlackBerry and Porsche Design won a Red Dot in the Product Design Category for the Porsche design P’9983.

Scott Wenger, Global Head of BlackBerry Devices Design said,

“Our BlackBerry Design Team is extremely excited to be recognized by the prestigious Red Dot, given the time and energy spent on developing this next level design for BlackBerry,”

“PRIV is an innovative device encompassing a re-imagined form factor while also offering security standards on an Android device that many in the industry never thought would be possible. These design features and security enhancements set PRIV apart from the pack.”

The problem for BlackBerry is that while most of their BlackBerry 10 smartphones have won awards, it hasn’t enhanced their sales. All eyes will be on BlackBerry Priv sales figure Friday, when BlackBerry announce their Q4 earnings results.
