Following an appearance at the annual Milken Institute Global Conference, BlackBerry CEO John sat down with CNBC and Bloomberg and stated (once again) that he has no immediate plans to stop making smartphones.
Chen repeated his earlier statements about a return to hardware profitability being key, and says that he’s now “very close†to getting the company there, and that he “truly believes†that BlackBerry will remain in the business of making smartphones.
Chen once again confirmed plans to release two new Android phones later this year.
In his subsequent interview with Bloomberg, Chen clarified that BlackBerry plans to release the two devices prior to the end of next February (the company’s fiscal 2017 year ends on February 28, 2017).
The First of two secure Android phones will be released the end of the summer of early fall 2016.
The Second phone will be released around February 2017
