BlackBerry reportedly planning to move BBM servers to Indonesia

BlackBerry is reportedly planning to move the BBM servers to Indonesia following a partnership with media group PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi (Emtek) in June.

According to dailysocial, BBM CEO Matthew Talbot said the company planned to gradually move its servers in Canada to Indonesia, with the process to be completed in 2017.

While the process is ongoing, Talbot expects the infrastructure in Indonesia to be preparing to support it,  as the current infrastructure in Indonesia has no hosting facilities that are able to handle the amount of required data in Indonesia.

Talbot expects the move to be able to provide a better experience for Indonesian users, meaning it will allow them to access BBM services much faster.

“Experience is very important,” said Talbot. “We don’t want to access the data through transatlantic cable. We would like to give a better messaging experience.”

In a bid to become an all-in-one platform, BBM has released various services, including BBM Voucher, BBM Shopping in collaboration with Bukalapak, and BBM Travel.
