ASUS announces ZenWatch Design Competition with six ZenWatch devices to be won

Design competition opens with six ZenWatch devices to be won

ASUS is offering designers a chance to win a smart watch by coming up with a new face for its ZenWatch smart watch range. As part of its Face the Future competition, running from 10 January till 10 February, Asus is asking designers to create watch faces for the ZenWatch for the glory of seeing their designs on real smartwatches and also for the chance to win one of six devices.

There will be winners in six categories, five judged by the Asus Design Center team (the brilliantly titled Gold Medal, Best in Beauty, Best in Creativity, Best Practical Design and Best Student Design) and one Fan Favourite based on votes via Facebook once the competition has closed.

The competition page also requires your Facebook log-in, which might put potential ZenWatch designers off, a design name, short design description then the uploaded image file itself with the guidance that 320 x 320 is best to match the resolution of the ZenWatch’s 1.63-inch AMOLED screen.

You can choose between the three strap colours for the hue that bests sets off your handiwork and download templates of the actual hardware to aid your design process.

The final image must be a JPG or PNG and under 2MB in size. As you can only upload one static image, it looks like Asus isn’t interested in animated faces or ones with evidence of extra functionality.

The competition to win the six ZenWatch devices will actually be open to voters as well as designers. We’ve had a quick look at the Face the Future site and there’s already some quirky designs up there with Asus itself stating there’s already over 100 watch faces available for its smartwatch via the ZenWatch Manager app.
