Qualcomm Technologies developed its new Qualcomm SafeSwitchâ„¢ technology – to address the mobile security threat with a superior kill switch solution.
SafeSwitch technology, combined with third party service provider support, is designed to allow device owners to remotely disable their devices in the event that they’re lost or stolen – and then re-enable them in the event they’re found. This helps to protect sensitive, valuable personal data and to deter device theft in the first place.
Qualcomm SafeSwitch technology is built upon strong security hardware – engineered to protect firmware, resist chip replacement, and to lock down critical device components. Through its tight integration with advanced security software, SafeSwitch is designed to allow for user control, including the ability to set a password remotely, erase and recover data, and locate or lock a lost or stolen device.
Qualcomm SafeSwitch hardware and software technology is engaged at the early boot stage before the operating system is up. This is designed to detect hacking attempts, including device wipe or malicious software install.
Qualcomm Technologies announced SafeSwitch in September of 2014 and is first making SafeSwitch available to OEM customers through its flagship Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 processors.
Android 5.0 Lollipop comes with a kill switch, it’s turned on by default in Apple’s iOS 8 and Windows Phone 8.1 has it too.
