Vodafone’s VOXI brings £10 Social Tariff with unlimited 5G

VOXI For Now tariff will give unlimited 5G data, calls and texts for just £10 a month to anyone receiving benefits.

Vodafone has relaunched its ‘VOXI For Now’ plan, helping those experiencing financial hardship to stay connected. The plan will give unlimited 5G mobile data, minutes and texts for just £10 a month, for up to six months, to anyone claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, Disability Allowance, Personal Independent Payment, Employment and Support Allowance, or employment-based Universal Credit.

With ‘VOXI For Now’ there is no need for a credit check, and no contract to sign. The plan would usually cost £35 a month (70% discount) and is the only mobile social tariff on the market.

Digital Secretary Nadine Dorries said:

“At a time when family budgets are under pressure from global price rises it is brilliant to see Vodafone offering support for those struggling the most.

“We’ve successfully worked with mobile and broadband companies to broker a range of social tariffs and this new offer means five million people are now able to make savings on their mobile phone bill. I urge those eligible to speak to their provider and see if they can save by switching.”

‘VOXI For Now’ first launched in November 2020 to help those who had become unemployed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The enhanced version makes it easier to access for more customers who are struggling with their finances.

The tariff is available on Vodafone’s VOXI brand and is open to anyone (not just the under 25s). Moneyhub will provide VOXI with an automated eligibility checking service, enabling quick and simple access to the tariff.

When signing up for the plan, customers will be asked to give Moneyhub consent to check their banking data, using FCA-regulated Open Banking to instantly provide eligibility evidence.

Moneyhub will share no financial data with Vodafone, only the result of whether the customer qualifies for eligibility.

Applicants must:

  1. Confirm their benefits are paid into a UK bank account.
  2. Select their bank from a pre-populated list.
  3. Consent by agreeing that Moneyhub will check eligibility through Open Banking, to verify they receive a government benefit payment

Samantha Seaton, CEO of Moneyhub, comments:

“Open Banking technology has the power to genuinely improve financial wellness, and we are delighted to be partnering with Vodafone to use this technology in order to support their customers.”

Customers on ‘VOXI for Now’ will enjoy the same benefits that come with being a VOXI customer, including 5G on Vodafone’s network. This means those facing financial difficulties do not need to compromise on staying connected.

Max Taylor, Consumer Director, Vodafone UK, said:

“By enhancing VOXI for Now and extending it to anyone experiencing financial hardship, we hope to keep as many people as possible connected, both to family and friends, as well as to vital online services.

“If you can’t afford your current plan, or you know someone who is struggling, we can help.”
