Metamask Card

Mastercard and MetaMask launch MetaMask Card Pilot

With MetaMask Card, users can now spend their crypto anywhere Mastercard is accepted

MetaMask has launched the pilot of the MetaMask Card in partnership with Mastercard and Baanx, introducing the first Mastercard payment card that allows users to make direct purchases from their MetaMask wallet.

This pilot is available to a limited group of users in the EU and UK only. To find out if you’re eligible, simply go to your MetaMask Portfolio and check if you have a “Card” tab in the navigation bar on the left side.

Eligible users with the Card tab will be redirected to the Crypto Life platform to set up their account and card.

“MetaMask Card pilot gives people more freedom to spend their crypto,” says Lorenzo Santos, Senior Product Manager at Consensys.

“MetaMask Card represents a major step to removing the friction that has traditionally existed between the blockchain and real-world commerce. This is a paradigm shift that offers the best of both worlds.”

MetaMask Card eliminates the need for a bank to spend your crypto. This not only paves the way for increased adoption, it also aligns with the MetaMask vision of empowering people with self-custody.

Most traditional crypto cards operate similarly to prepaid cards, where one must transfer funds to a third party before spending them.

What makes the MetaMask Card unique is that it functions like a debit card. This means card holders can directly use the crypto in their MetaMask wallet for everyday purchases and maintain control over their funds until the exact moment of payment.

MetaMask Card utilizes Mastercard’s global merchant network, combined with the security of MetaMask and the efficiency of Linea secured by the Ethereum network. This trio brings a swift, cost-effective, and secure spending experience, whether online or for in store purchases.
