Speaking to a Chinese media outlet, Huawei’s founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, revealed some interesting information around Hongmen, Huawei’s homegrown OS.
Zhengfei claims that HongMeng OS is faster than both Google’s Android and Apple’s MacOS , citing a processing delay of “just a few milliseconds”.
HongMeng OS will be introduced to the company’s laptop computer offerings (hence the MacOS comparison). Huawei’s OS is designed to be versatile with a broad range of compatibility across different electronic devices which will interact with one another. A move that is similar to Apple’s iCloud based electronic economy and family connectivity.
With Huawei seeming likely to regain access to US suppliers, the incentive to develop ones own operating system might seem reduced but it would appear that Huawei no longer wants to depend on Google’s operating system and the company is going ahead with its very own OS, which could turn out to a good thing for consumers.
Yes, we haven’t seen the Hongmeng OS yet, nor do we know much, but at the end of the day, we will have an Android alternative to try.
Huawei is holding their 2019 Developer Conference, in August and hopefully we will get our first look at what Huawei’s alternative smartphone operating system looks like.
