Huawei Mate X Foldable Smartphone will not be released until “ready”

Huawei is still optimising the foldable Mate X smartphone and will  not release it without meeting quality requirements, the company’s director of consumer business mobile phones He Gang said Monday.

According to the executive, Mate X is still undergoing optimisation to meet the company’s stringent and high quality requirements.

“It’s actually taking a lot longer and is requiring more effort than initially anticipated. And if it doesn’t meet those requirement[s], we won’t put out the phone” Gang said.

Huawei had earlier announced that it will be delaying the release of Mate X until September to ensure the device did not face the same issues as the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

After extensive tests, Huawei Mate X has currently passed 3C certification and network access license.

However, Gang stated,

“Everyone should be very clear that Huawei’s quality requirements are very demanding. If it does not meet the quality requirements, we will not let the products go on the market,”

“We have invested heavily in Mate X. As for when Samsung’s device will hit the market, it is not a key point for us to consider. The key point we consider is to hope that consumers can get this product when they get it.”
