Huawei Mate 30 to launch on Sept 19

Huawei has officially announced that its new Mate 30 line of phones will launch on Sept. 19 in Munich, which are expected to bring significant upgrades over their predecessors, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro,

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro could feature a large waterfall notch above the screen. The cutout is expected to house the selfie camera and additional sensors for secure 3D face mapping and unlocking.

The device could flaunt four cameras at the rear, which will be placed inside a circular module. Notably, there will also be a large LED flash on the left-side apart from something that looks like a laser autofocus sensor.

The Huawei Mate 30 is rumoured to feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with full HD+ resolution and a screen refresh rate of 60Hz. As for the Mate 30 Pro, the flagship is said to flaunt a slightly bigger 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of QHD+ and a much higher screen refresh rate of 90Hz. While the former is expected to come with a flat screen, the latter’s display is tipped to be curved on both sides.

In terms of optics, the Huawei Mate 30 duo are rumoured to flaunt four cameras at the back. The more premium of the two, the Mate 30 Pro’s quad-camera setup is said to comprise 40MP, 40MP, 8MP, and ToF cameras.

The main 40MP sensor is said to feature an aperture of f/1.4-f/1.5 and RYYB pixel layout, while the secondary 40MP shooter is tipped to be an ultra-wide-angle lens. The third 8MP sensor is likely to feature 5X zoom capabilities.

However, the biggest question is whether the devices will run the full version of Android 10 or the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), a restricted version of Android that doesn’t offer access to many of the apps Android users rely on on a daily basis.

Google apps that AOSP doesn’t include are Google Play Store, Google Assistant, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Duo and YouTube.

Huawei has been developing its own operating system for some time now, with HarmonyOS becoming official in early August, but it it nt expected that either the Mate 30 or Mate 30 Pro will launch with the new OS.
