Huawei today unveiled the company’s latest flagship phones, the P10 and P10 Plus as Huawei CEO Richard Yu unveiled the company’s latest flagship phones for 2017.
The P10 is the first smartphone to feature a rear and front camera manufactured by German camera specialist Leica. Last year’s P9 saw the rear camera with Leica co-engineering. The front of the phone has both a 20MP and 12MP lens which are designed to offer better clarity and focus.
Facial recognition technology has also been installed, which detects patterns through the lens to create better quality selfies. Users can also adjust focus, white balance and shutter speed manually.
There is also dual-sim compatibility, Yu claimed it is the first phone to be 4.5G compatible. This means it can pick up faster and stronger mobile signals than other handsets on the market.
The P10 packs 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and the same dual-camera 12/20-megapixel array as the Mate 9, behind f/2.2 lenses. And that gets bumped up to 6GB/128GB for the P10 Plus, with improved optics for the cameras in the form of a significantly upgraded f/1.8 lens.
The P10 series debuts with Android 7.0 Nougat and the new EMUI 5.1 software layer. Huawei says it’s tuned up Android’s kernel, memory management, garbage collection and touch responsiveness to make apps load up to 30 percent faster than before. And that’s in addition to the machine learning techniques it was using in EMUI 5 to prioritize apps depending on their performance needs.
Both handsets are available in black, silver, gold, green and blue. They will be available on all four major UK networks and Carphone Warehouse from March, with pricing starting from £649 for the standard variant and £799 for the Plus.
