Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip name confirmed by Samsung

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip at their unpacked event on February 11, along with their new Galaxy S20 series.

One thing that was uncertain was what the official name would be but Samsung Romania has now confirmed the foldable smartphone will indeed be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

While the official Samsung page confirms the name – in a listing for a “Galaxy Z Flip Protective Leather Cover” – it does not provide any further details of the phone itself.

The Galaxy Flip is expected to be smaller than Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and rival the Motorola Razr flip phone, which is currently available to pre-order from EE. It could unfold into a 6.7-inch screen, unlike the Galaxy Fold, which has a 7.3-inch screen that bends in half to open like a book.

A video of an engineering sample of the Galaxy Z flip has appeared on Twitter, with the phone, once opened and unlocked, showing a Samsung security consent form.

The video shows a small 1-inch ticker OLED, which shows the time and date and, presumably, incoming notifications.

Once opened you can see the phone’s tall inner display, which is expected to be covered by the first iteration of a folding glass that should make it more difficult to damage with everyday use.
