Google Cast now directly integrated into Chrome

Google has announced the full integration of Google Cast capability directly into its Chrome browser. This is an advancement from the Cast extension it has offered for the past two years, which allowed users to broadcast content from their Chrome browser to Cast-enabled devices like the Chromecast.

Now, you don’t even have to download any additional software – the Cast icon now shows up whenever you’re on a site that supports it, and you can Cast anything at all using the Chrome menu.

Cast has come along way in the past two years, and is now available on third-party hardware include speakers and TV, in addition to Google’s own Chromecast and Chromecast Audio dongles.

You can even cast to other apps, like Google Hangouts, and the Cast for Education app, giving more options for use in multi-user settings like classrooms and virtual meetings.

Google says that “casting” from Chrome is a popular activity even before this integration,

“Casting from Chrome has become incredibly popular: In the past month alone, people have casted more than 38 million times from Chrome, watching and listening to more than 50 million hours of content.”

To get the new built-in Cast functionality all you need to do is make sure you have the latest version of Chrome.
