Google launches standalone web version of Hangouts

Google has launched a standalone web version of Hangouts. With the latest web client, users will not have to depend on Google+ or Gmail to access the messaging and video chat service.

“We are launching another way to use Hangouts today.  From our new site you’ll be able to take advantage of the best of Hangouts in the browser, along with an inspiring image to get you through the day.” said Jordanna Chord, a software engineer at Google, in a Google+ post.

The Hangouts website offers all the features that are present on Gmail and Google+ like users can carry multiple conversations and make a voice or video calls.

Homepage of the Hangouts website highlights three main features video call, phone call and message.

The latest move comes from Google months after Facebook rolled out Messenger for Web.
