Microsoft Teams is currently down as the company struggles to handle the surge in use as many countries in Europe begin working from home.
Microsoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage, and application integration, as per its official description, and many companies use it for virtual conferencing and staying in touch when working remotely.
Due to the outbreak of coronavirus (or COVID-19), Europe has seen a huge increase in the amount of people being told to work from home. Coupled with the fact that Microsoft gave free premium access for the duration of the outbreak, this is putting immense strain on Microsoft’s servers.
Microsoft announced on Twitter that it’s “investigating messaging-related functionality problems within Microsoft Teams,”
More than three-quarters of the issues were claimed to be with server connection. Other problems include accessing the website and logging in.
Other users reported that there was issues sending and receiving messages.
It’s likely that many services will see disruptions as the coronavirus forces more people into working from home, and connecting with their colleagues remotely.
If you’re having issues logging in, your best bet is to wait and try to reconnect at a later time – hammering the sign-in button and trying to get online over and over is only going to put more strain on the servers – and is definitely not going to help your issue.
Most issues should be resolved, but it’s certainly possible the servers could go down again as more companies shift to remote access and remote work.
