FIFA, the world’s football governing body, and Avalanche are teaming up to develop a dedicated blockchain platform to support its digital infrastructure.
Avalanche have announced that FIFA will launch a purpose-built blockchain called the FIFA Blockchain.
The network will be developed on Avalanche’s architecture for FIFA’s digital products, beginning with the migration of FIFA Collect, the organization’s official digital collectibles marketplace.
FIFA and Avalanche join forces to build L1-network
The FIFA Blockchain will operate as a sovereign layer-1 network with high throughput, low latency, and governance autonomy. Despite its independence, the blockchain will remain interoperable with Avalanche’s ecosystem and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
FIFA intends to use Avalanche to host fan experiences, trading platforms, and digital collectibles that can scale to match its five-billion-strong global audience.
The FIFA Blockchain will be the foundation for a new suite of digital products, starting with the migration of FIFA Collect, the organization’s official digital collectibles platform.
Avalanche’s sub-second transaction finality, minimal fees, and resilience to network congestion make it the ideal infrastructure for delivering seamless user experiences to a global audience, even during high-traffic events like World Cup matches or major tournament launches.
Avalanche said in a statement:
“By selecting Avalanche, FIFA is not simply embracing blockchain, it is establishing a long-term digital foundation capable of supporting the scale, speed, and flexibility required by the world’s most-watched sport,”
According to Modex CEO Francesco Abbate:
This move enhances our ability to deliver unique digital collectibles and immersive fan experiences, powered by the speed, scalability, and EVM compatibility. That means seamless integration with popular wallets, easier access, and a future-proof foundation for growth
Last year, FIFA revealed a new collaboration with Mythical Games to develop “FIFA Rivals,” a mobile soccer game set for release this month. The title will be free-to-play on iOS and Android.
