Some of the top Web3 platforms and companies are teaming up to launch the Open Metaverse Alliance (OMA3) for Web3 .
The Open Metaverse Alliance was formed to ensure “to ensure virtual land, digital assets, ideas, and services are highly interoperable between platforms and transparent to all communities.” with heavyweights such as Animoca Brands, Alien Worlds, Decentraland and more.
The OMA3 claims that it will function as a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that will operate like a consortium, where its governance is guided by “the principles of inclusiveness, transparency, and decentralization.”
The companies that are part of the Alliance will work together to create a unified metaverse where digital assets (such as NFTs), identities, and data are permissionless, interoperable, and controlled by users, not platforms.
The Open Metaverse Alliance will also ensure that the users immutably own their assets and will be able to transfer them to any of the virtual worlds within the Alliance freely, without needing the platform’s permission.
At the time of publishing, the Alliance consists of:
- Alien Worlds
- Animoca Brands
- Cryptovoxels
- Dapper Labs
- Decentraland
- Meta Metaverse
- SPACE
- Splinterlands
- Star Atlas
- Superworld
- The Sandbox
- Upland
- Wivity
This alliance comes on the heels of of 30 large corporations such as Meta, Microsoft, Alibaba, Sony, Epic games and more who formed the Metaverse Standards Forum in June with a similar aim.
However, these are not endemic companies from the blockchain industry.
OMA3 on the other hand is made up of dedicated blockchain gaming companies that are endemic towards the Metaverse and Web3 space.
