The launch is part of HSBC UK’s commitment to providing customers with greater flexibility and choice when managing their borrowing and spending.

With household budgets under pressure and digital-first banking adoption accelerating, the new instalment feature aims to offer a more manageable approach to repayments.

The newly launched feature allows customers to split purchases made via Apple Pay into manageable monthly instalments, all set up directly from their iPhone or iPad at the time of purchase.

Eligible users can select an HSBC credit card in Apple Wallet, choose Pay Later at checkout, and then view and select from the available instalment plans.

The instalment plans come with transparent repayment options. Customers can choose from a range of repayment terms with fixed monthly fees between 1.5% and 8% of the total plan amount, with no interest charged on the outstanding balance.

Instalments can be tracked through the HSBC UK mobile app and monthly statements, ensuring customers have full visibility of their repayment schedules.

Users can have up to 6 instalment plans at one time. Your statement will show the monthly instalment and fee for each plan.

To qualify, customers need to make a purchase of at least £100 online or in-app using Apple Pay.

The feature is available now to HSBC UK credit card holders using iOS 18.2 or later. Apple Pay continues to provide an easy, secure and private way to pay, with Apple not retaining any transaction information that can be linked back to individual customers.

Colin O’Flaherty, head of unsecured lending at HSBC UK, said:

“We’re committed to giving our customers choice in how they make purchases, as well as flexibility in how they approach their borrowing. The ability to pay with instalments when checking out with Apple Pay using a HSBC credit card does just that.”

“This new option offers our customers a smart, simple and secure way to spread the cost of purchases, directly from the devices they use every day. This launch is another step in delivering digital-first experiences that fit around our customer’s lifestyles.”
