Nokia will deploy its 5G standalone (SA) Core for DISH on Amazon Web Services (AWS). While DISH previously announced agreements with both companies, this news marks the world’s first deployment of 5G in the public cloud, supporting DISH’s cloud-native, OpenRAN-based 5G network with high-level scale, performance and security.
Nokia has opened its first Open RAN (O-RAN) Collaboration and Testing Centre at its offices in Dallas, Texas. The centre is designed to support the development of partnerships among O-RAN vendors that will help with the verification, introduction, and launch of O-RAN compliant solutions to market.

Vodafone UK is to open a new OpenRAN Test and Validation Lab on its Newbury campus to support the developing OpenRAN ecosystem for the telecommunications industry. The lab will be the first dedicated research and development facility for OpenRAN in the UK.

A rural OpenRAN site is the first of around 100 rural OpenRAN sites that Vodafone will deploy in the UK with the vRAN supplier Mavenir. The first site is connecting Vodafone customers around the Royal Welsh Showground in Powys, Wales.
