Telegram has rolled out a new update to Telegram X, which brings new privacy notifications, support for polls and a whole lot more.
A major feature of the recent update, is what the developer is calling Notifications 2.0. This overhaul is a complete rework of the notification system, working to improve reliability, speed, and overall behaviour. Notifications now work even if you’re not connected to Telegram servers, such as if you’re in a country where the service is banned.
Dismissed notifications will no longer appear again when receiving notification from another chat, or due to unknown events and there is improved support for Edge Screen on Samsung devices. Notifications are now grouped by chat type and there is an option to hide secret chat notifications when the device screen is locked.
Silent broadcast notifications from channels are now silently displayed in the notification tray and there are separate settings for channels. Users can now also disable message preview from specific chats. A new system notification sound picker has been introduced and there is an option to display read-only notifications while app is locked with Passcode.
While Telegram X notifications reliability has been improved dramatically, system settings on some device manufacturers still might prevent notifications from working reliably (i.e. big delays or not arriving at all while app is closed).
It’s not all about notifications and this update brings quite a few new features. Telegram X now allows users to create and participate in community polls and users can now delete chats & messages on both ends in private chats. In addition, users can pin messages in saved messages and any groups.
A completely reworked internal core architecture has been implemented in order to dramatically reduce device memory & battery usage while using many accounts. Now it does not matter whether you have 3 or 3000 accounts in Telegram X, they will take similar amount of resources, and notifications will work for all of them.
App launch speed has been increased but you should keep in mind that first launch after updating Telegram X may take a while, since it has to optimise the database for each account. Whenever Telegram X fails to launch due to an unresolvable error, next time you launch the app, you will see a recovery screen that should help with resolving the issue.
You can now copy links for messages in private groups and channels, filter chat by type and there is improved censorship circumvention. There is full control over mentions, replies & pinned messages notifications (with “Notify all members” toggle on) and users can quickly change audio playback position without waiting for a file to download.
Improvements have been made to the online member count in all groups and total member count calculation. Finally, there is a new 2FA email recovery setup by code.
