Zoom brings new and improved features to all platforms

Zoom faced a number of new challenges due to an unprecedented surge in users as COVID-19 forced employees to work from home and students to learn from home amid local lockdown restrictions.

The company has made a number of regular changes and updates to the platform since reports of privacy and security flaws started gaining traction in March and April, leading some users to feel more confident that the app is now safe to use.

The Zoom platform continues to see updates on a regular basis and the latest update brings new and improved features to all platforms.

Zoom client updates

Webinar features

Users now have the option to delete questions. The host or panelists can now choose to delete questions submitted through the Q&A during a webinar. This is applicable to Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

Chat features

The are now Enhanced notification settings on Linux. Users on Linux can now choose to display a count of the unread messages, play a sound when receiving a new message, select which types of messages to receive notifications for, and when to receive notifications.

Phone features

Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android

Personal locations for nomadic emergency services allows users to define locations and specify an emergency address. The Zoom client will automatically save the IP address or wireless access point identifiers for the location.

When a phone user places an emergency call from a defined location, the associated emergency address will be sent to emergency responders.

Users will see a notification to manually reconnect to the Zoom Phone server if they disconnect.

The Zoom client also sees enhancements to hiding outbound caller ID. Users can also dial *67 before entering a phone number to hide their outbound caller ID.

If users hide their caller ID, a disclaimer will warn them that it will not be effective in all countries or regions.

When selecting outbound caller ID numbers, users can see display names set in the web portal. This makes it easier for users to identify numbers. The display name does not affect your caller ID.

The meeting host can now unmute all participants for meetings with 200 participants or fewer. This option is available in the host controls by clicking Participants, then More.

In addition, the latest update brings the usual Minor bug fixes to both the Zoom client and the Outlook plugin.
