Vodafone have sent a warning to all of its users after a scam text, claiming to be from delivery service DHL, has been targeting their customers. However, the text contains a link to malicious malware targeting Android devices.
The scam reads: “DHL: Your parcel is arriving, track here,” and contains a link it encourages people to click.
Vodafone have warned customers of the scam, asking them to ‘be careful’.
Vodafone wrote:
“SCAM ALERT.
“We’ve been made aware of a text message that claims to be from DHL but contains a link to malicious malware targeting Android devices.
“We’ve seen reports of this across all networks in many countries, and it seems to be growing quickly. Please be careful.”
If you receive a text that looks like the one on the right:
- IGNORE: Do not click any links.
- REPORT: Report it by forwarding to 7726.
- DELETE: Remove the text from your phone.
For Android users that clicked the link and installed the Flubot malware we recommend the following to protect your data:
- STOP using the device
- RESET the device to factory settings (avoid backing up to ensure complete Flubot removal)
- RESTART your phone
