BlackBerry subscribers decline in South Africa for the first time

BlackBerry subscriber numbers on the Vodacom network have declined for the first time since the company launched services in South Africa.

Vodacom’s latest statistics revealed that there were 3,030,000 BlackBerry devices on its network in March 2014 – down from 3,100,000 in September 2013.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub said that the demand for BlackBerry devices has plummeted.

“BlackBerry sales have been declining. Year on year BlackBerry sales are down 45%,” said Joosub.

He added that they have seen a big upswing in the number of Android devices on the Vodacom network.

BlackBerry sales have already dwindled in many countries, and it’s no real surprise that the decline has reached South Africa.[signoff predefined=”Enjoy this?” icon=”icon-users”][/signoff]
