If you read the title of this article then relax, it is still 2014 and not 2011. Your weekend may have been good but it wasn’t that good, you haven’t travelled back in time.
Back in March, BlackBerry CEO John Chen announced that BlackBerry will be continuing the BlackBerry 7 Bold device line.
It would appear that this is now in progress as the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is now available to pre-order from ShopBlackBerry in the US, with shipments expected to be despatched around June 18th.
Chen says the reason for continuing BlackBerry 7 is due to customer feedback.
At BlackBerry, the current focus is all about clawing in revenue and from that perspective, this strategy makes sense. BlackBerry legacy devices currently outsell the newer BlackBerry 10 devices by more than two thirds. If customers want the 9900 then BlackBerry will quite simply sell it to them. Thats just good business.
However, pricing the 9900 at $399, the same price as the BlackBerry Q10, will raise some eyebrows.
Foxconn will not be building these devices. BlackBerry have secured relations with Wistron to build them.
