It’s been an open secret for some time that BlackBerry will be launching two new Android handsets, one with a physical keyboard and one without (codenamed Argon). BlackBerry has now gone and “leaked” the specifications of the all touch device, the DTEK60 (Argon) via their very own product pages.
While the web page lacks an image, previous rumours stated that the device will resemble the Alcatel Idol 4 Pro smartphone. Considering the fact that the previous device, DTEK50, design was completely based on Alcatel’s Idol 4 this would be a pretty fair assumption. The specs listed here also match the Idol 4 Pro.
The DTEK60 is quite obviously an evolved version of the DTEK50 and is likely to come with a 5.5-inch display, versus the 5.2-inch screen offered on the existing phone. A 2560×1440 pixel Quad HD resolution is likely to be offered with a screen depth of 534 PPI. The screen will feature an all-touch screen with the focus now switched to gesture-based navigation.
In terms of power, the DTEK60 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU with 4GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, and a microSD card slot is very likely to be offered, just like on the DTEK50.
Cameras will get an upgrade too, and the main unit will be a 21-megapixel with auto-focus, while the front-facing version will feature 8 megapixels for selfies and video calls.
The battery will get an upgrade with a 3,000 mAh non-removable unit, up from 2,610 mAh on its predecessor. Charging will take place via the single USB Type-C port with Quick Charge 3.0 support for fast charging.
BlackBerry have been inconsistent with their explanation of why their previous smartphones didn’t include a fingerprint sensor. When they launched the Priv, they stated that a fingerprint sensor wasn’t secure enough and when they launched the DTEK50, they stated that no fingerprint sensor was included due to price costs, keeping down the price of the mid-range DTEK50. That is academic now, as the DTEK60 should come with a fingerprint sensor.
BlackBerry users “annoyed” that the DTEK50 only had a white LED will be pleased to note that the DTEK60 brings the Red LED back.
Obviously, these specs are not official but since they come straight from BlackBerry, they are extremely likely to be real, as BlackBerry put the page together before any official launch.
Obviously, there is no pricing or availability listed for the DTEK60 but our own sources still point to the DTEK60 being launched in November – with the physical keyboard device coming early in 2017.
