Yesterday, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the Fire phone, the company’s first attempt at designing a smartphone.
The handset has a 4.7-inch 720p display, quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera – but most interestingly is how it uses an array of infrared cameras to track the user’s face and create a 3D user interface.
The cameras work with the phone’s accelerometer to tilt and scroll the phone’s user interface depending on how the user looks at it.
Another unique feature is Firefly, which uses the phone’s regular camera and microphone to identify products, films and music. Show the phone an item or play it some music, and it will instantly suggest where on Amazon you can buy it.
