Apple is holding a special event on April 20, 2021, coming with the tagline, ‘Spring Loaded’. The event will take place at 3:00 PM GMT / 10:00 AM Pacific Time at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus located in Cupertino, California.
As has become the custom, the event has a tagline: “Spring Loaded.” The taglines usually harbour subtle clues about what products might be updated or how, as well as the general theme of the event.
It has become something of a tradition in recent years for Apple’s spring product events to be iPad-focused, and multiple reports and leaks over the past few months have indicated that a refreshed iPad Pro is imminent.
Rumours have claimed it will have a new processor that provides performance in line with the M1 chip that shipped in Macs late last year, and they’ve said that at least the larger, 12.9-inch model will feature Mini LED technology, which offers better contrast than the LCD displays found in prior iPads.
It’s possible that Apple will finally announce AirTags, its augmented reality-focused Tile competitor. We’ve lost count though how many times these have been expected and failed to materialise.
The company could also introduce one or more new Apple Silicon-equipped Macs. Late last year, the low-end MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini were updated, but Apple has committed to bringing its custom-designed silicon to the entire line within the next year and a half, and reports have said we can, sometime this year, expect Apple Silicon versions of the higher-end MacBook Pro models and the iMac, as well as a redesigned Apple Silicon MacBook Air.
Apple TV is in dire need of an update. Not just a software update, but new hardware. It’s been 3.5 years since Apple released the Apple TV 4K, which is now underpowered and overpriced.
Rumors have circulated about a more robust Apple TV, with a modern processor, a new remote and even perhaps an Apple Arcade gaming controller.
There’s also been evidence found in the iOS 14.5 beta that hints at 120Hz support. With Apple TVs acting as a HomeKit hub to keep accessories and devices connected, it’d be nice to have Thread support built into the new Apple TV, along with an Ultra-Wideband U1 chip for better automation.
Last week, Apple launched third-party support for its Find My network, allowing other companies to integrate with the service. Belkin announced some wireless earbuds that you can track in the Find My app, and Chipolo’s ONE Spot tracker, along with two new e-bikes from VonMoof also work with the new platform.
