Apple has released iOS 26.6, bringing almost eighty security fixes, including 14 issues affecting the Kernel, which is at the heart of the OS, and another eight that affect WebKit, which underpins Safari.
Other notable items include a Game Center problem which could mean a malicious app could bust out of its sandbox, an Accessibility issue which might potentially expose sensitive data via iPhone Mirroring, though the bad actor would need physical access to achieve this.
An issue in Contacts could let an app add a contact without permission.
Enterprise users will find an extra fix where Apple have Resolved an issue where “the DisableAssociationMACRandomization key did not prevent users from changing the Private Wi-Fi Address setting to Fixed or Rotating,”
Interestingly, in this release is an alert when you’ve blocked too many contacts and you may hit the system’s unspecified limit at some point.
iOS 26.6 includes some key optimizations to the Spotlight index, which is a comprehensive record of all the photos, texts, apps and other key information Siri would need to access. Being on iOS 26.6 should make it quicker to take advantage of the new features in iOS 27.
Also available are iPadOS 26.6, MacOS 26.6 Tahoe, WatchOS 26.6 and TVOS 26.6.
The 26.6 operating systems will most likely be the last update ahead of Apple’s upcoming iOS 27.
