Ricky Gervais Golden Globes 2020

Ricky Gervais roasts Apple at Golden Globes

The Golden Globes 2020 are over and apparently some actors won awards while others didn’t. To be honest, I’ve forgotten about the boring bits (who won what), the highlight of the night, the most memorable and enjoyable part of the night was host Ricky Gervais. The comedian was quite simply brilliant. Harsh but brilliant!

Apple were at the awards for the first time this year, after launching Apple TV+. While the company took home no awards from the Golden Globes, they received a roasting from Gervais.

The comedian blasted Apple CEO Tim Cook, accusing him of running sweatshops in China while making a drama about “doing the right thing.”

“Apple rolled into the TV game with a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China,” Gervais said as the camera panned to Apple CEO Tim Cook in the audience.

At the top of the annual ceremony at the Beverly Hilton, Gervais ended his monologue by telling the nominees: ”

“If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech,”

“You’re not in a position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and f**k off.”
