BlackBerry appoints David Nicol managing director across Australia and New Zealand

BlackBerry has appointed David Nicol as managing director across Australia and New Zealand. Nicol was previously director of cloud services and new business at Citrix since January 2017, having joined the vendor in May 2013 as the director of field sales, before becoming director of workspace product sales in 2015.

Nicol took to LinkedIn to state why he had joined BlackBerry.

“You may not hear about BlackBerry in everyday life as you used to, but it is actually all around you – from the cars you drive, to the phones you use for work, to the security systems in place to keep staff safe.

The most interesting thing about this now-completed transformation, is that BlackBerry is still doing what it always did best for 30+ years, protecting information and people so that businesses and governments can get compliant, mobilise teams, innovate and get on with serving customers. ” wrote Nicol,

Nicol also worked for IBM during the early 2000s, before joining Lenovo in 2004 in roles such as director of marketing and transactional business in Japan.

In 2010, Nicol then returned to IBM as System X business unit executive, where he remained until 2013 prior to joining Citrix.

According to Nicol, BlackBerry solutions are now “relevant” to telecommunication providers, system integrators, independent software vendors and developers.

“BlackBerry has a long history of working with the channel – but since moving from devices to enterprise software, the partner landscape today is somewhat different. BlackBerry solutions are relevant to Telcos, Integrators. ISVs and developers and the company offers an award-winning partner program.”

To further drive indirect business growth, Rebecca Bradburne – who has been with BlackBerry since 2013 – has commenced a new role leading channel engagement on both sides of the Tasman.

“I am very fortunate that Rebecca Bradburne, who has been with BlackBerry for a number of years, has started a new role leading channel engagement for BlackBerry in ANZ. For the many partners I have worked with who would like to explore a potential partnership with BlackBerry – Rebecca and I would be delighted to meet with you.”
