Uninett
Nokia will provide Norway’s national research and education network, Uninett, with high capacity optical network solutions for expansion of the fibre infrastructure in northern Norway. The need for this expansion is mainly driven by Eiscat Scientific Association’s extreme capacity needs (8 Tbit/s) for ionosphere and upper atmosphere 3D research in the Northern region.

AWS
Amazon has launched AWS Wavelength, an AWS infrastructure that enables enterprises and developers to build ultra-low latency applications that can be delivered via the Vodafone 5G network. Amazon says that by embedding AWS compute and storage services at the edge of 5G networks, “AWS Wavelength enables software developers to serve edge computing use cases like machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and video and game streaming.”
Nokia OpenRAN
Nokia has opened its first Open RAN (O-RAN) Collaboration and Testing Centre at its offices in Dallas, Texas. The centre is designed to support the development of partnerships among O-RAN vendors that will help with the verification, introduction, and launch of O-RAN compliant solutions to market.
6G THz Wireless Communication Prototype
Samsung has demonstrated the 6G Terahertz (THz) wireless communication prototype in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Nokia WING
Nokia is to collaborate with HMD Global using Nokia’s Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING) to enable seamless global IoT connectivity for HMD’s IoT solution for enterprises. The collaboration will allow enterprise customers of the HMD Connect Pro service to track and manage connected devices around the world.
Private 5G
Verizon Business has launched 'On Site 5G', which is the network’s first commercially available, private 5G network solution in the US. Custom-designed and managed by Verizon, On Site 5G networks will allow large enterprise and public sector customers to bring Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband capabilities to indoor or outdoor facilities where high 5G speed, high-capacity, low-latency connectivity is crucial, regardless of whether the premises is within a public 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area.
TomTom Go Expert
TomTom has launched the TomTom GO Expert for professional truck, van and bus drivers. With a 7-Inch high-definition (HD) touchscreen display and a new processor, TomTom says the GO Expert is 4x faster than previous satnavs and packed with powerful features including smart routing for large vehicles and accurate traffic information which make every drive more efficient.
Lebara
Lebara has extended their MVNO partnership with Vodafone UK, in a new three-and-a-half-year exclusive deal. Lebara Mobile customers will now be able to access Vodafone’s 5G service and customers will continue to be able to use Vodafone’s 4G network, with new features such as 4G Calling being launched this year.
Vodafone OpenRAN Newbury
Vodafone has increased its investment in the South West, with two locations in Cornwall – Fistral Beach in Newquay and the community of St Keverne on The Lizard – among the first in the UK to benefit from new OpenRAN 4G technology. Vodafone says it has invested across the region to ensure its residents, businesses and visitors have access to the latest mobile technology and improved connectivity.

BlackBerry's QNX Neutrino Realtime Operating System (RTOS), has been adopted in a new digital LCD cluster jointly developed with BiTECH Automotive (Wuhu) Co. The digital instrument cluster is being installed in Changan Automobile's new SUV, the UNI-K, which has entered mass production, providing a personalized user experience for drivers while ensuring the safety, security and reliability of the SUV's critical systems.

BT has launched BT TV Box Pro, the TV platform’s most advanced set-top box. Vodafone Curve Bike light and GPS tracker
Vodafone has launched the Curve Bike light & GPS tracker. With an ultrabright LED and three light modes that automatically brightens when braking, Curve Bike light & GPS tracker gives cyclists a safer ride no matter what time of day it is. The device combines intelligent lighting with GPS tracking and connection to Vodafone’s global network with a built-in Smart SIM providing assurance that the rider is safer and that the bike is secure.
Huawei Watch 3
Huawei launched a range of smartphones, smart watches, and tablets powered by its new HarmonyOS 2 operating system earlier today, including the HUAWEI WATCH 3 Series. HUAWEI WATCH 3 Series features a curved glass screen and 316L stainless steel case, complete with a brand-new 3D rotating crown that senses different levels of pressure and provides haptic feedback in response to user input.

Ericsson has launched Ericsson Private 5G, offering secure and simple 4G LTE and 5G Standalone (SA) connectivity primarily targeting – but not limited to – manufacturing, mining and process industry, offshore and power utilities, as well as ports and airports.
Nokia
Nokia has been selected by T-Mobile Netherlands to accelerate digital transformation while securing its fixed and mobile networks against cyber threats. The partnership will provide the operator with a wide range of managed services including automated network and security operations, as well as a service-centric optical network over the course of the five-year rollout.
Emergency Alerts East Suffolk
The UK Government plans to launch a UK Emergency Alerts warning service. Ahead of introduction a series of public trials will take place, with the first in East Suffolk on the 25th May 2021 where residents will receive a test alert message. Should the tests prove successful the capability will be made available for use across the whole of the UK later this year.
Broadband
Nokia has been chosen by Allo, an Information and Communications Technology service provider in Malaysia, to deploy a gigabit fibre network in the states of Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and East Coast of Malaysia. The deployment, which includes Nokia’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solution and Access Management System, will be completed by end of Q2 2021 covering nearly 150,000 homepasses.

BT pledged today to increase its fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) target from 20 million to 25 million by December 2026. In the last year Openreach passed a record 2m premises with FTTP and now believes that it has the capability to reach around 4m premises a year.
Play
Samsung is to conduct 4G and 5G trials in Warsaw, Poland, with mobile operator, Play. The companies will verify the capability and performance of Samsung’s 4G and 5G network solutions in the trial, which will be carried out in Play’s labs and commercial networks, beginning in the current quarter of this year.

BT is working with Cisco to introduce new collaboration tools aimed at helping UK firms to bounce back stronger following the Covid-19 pandemic. BT is to launch BT Home Essentials in June, a new social tariff connecting those on low income with affordable fibre broadband and calls. The new low cost tariff comes as BT research reveals that since the pandemic, almost three quarters (74%) of Brits would not find it easy to improve their financial situation without connectivity.

BT’s mobile business, EE, has finalised new 5G spectrum holdings following the conclusion of the second, assignment stage of Ofcom’s auction and will start to launch some of the new spectrum into the 5G network immediately. EE won 80MHz overall of the 700MHz and 3.6GHz bands that were on offer in the auction.

Virgin Media has successfully delivered next-generation 2.2Gbps broadband speeds to homes in Southampton and Manchester in real-world trials. The multi-gigabit speeds – around 40 times faster than the local average broadband speeds.

Huawei's chairman Xu Zhijun has used the company's global analyst conference in Shenzen to announce it intends to launch 6G equipment and subsequent networks in 2030. A white paper is also planned in which Huawei will tell the industry what 6G is.
