Nokia and Telekom Slovenije bring 10Gb/s broadband to Slovenia

Deployment will be made on FTTH network of Telekom Slovenije which is currently covering 400,000 + (more than half) of Slovenian households

Nokia is to supply broadband equipment which will bring 10Gb/s fibre to Telekom Slovenije’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, with deployment starting in 2021.

The deployment of the Quillion chipset-powered Nokia ISAM FX series will replace some existing access nodes and will also support the newly built FTTH network which covers the entire country.

Nokia’s solution will enable Telekom Slovenije to immediately offer up to 10Gb/s services for residential and business customers, with the option in the future of evolving to 25Gb/s PON network to support advanced services.

“Telekom Slovenije is committed to investing in the most advanced technology in order to deliver our users the most innovative products and services and the best customer experience. Utilization of the new XGS-PON technology means high-speed and higher-quality fixed broadband connections. COVID-19 highlighted the need for highly capable and stable remote connections.

But in addition to the needs of remote-workers, faster and better connections are needed for new TV and video services, and increasingly higher quality video technologies such as the 4K technology and virtual reality. Also, high capacity fiber networks complement our mobile network and strengthen our position in the upcoming 5G world.”

Sandy Motley, President, Fixed Networks at Nokia added:

“The global investment in fiber highlights the competitive advantage that ultra-fast networks bring. Nokia is the leader in 10Gb/s symmetrical PON and the only vendor to enable a smooth evolution to 25G speeds.

We are proud to work with Telekom Slovenije to bring high-speed broadband to customers on the largest FTTH network in Slovenia.”
