iOS 13.5 Beta 3 Brings COVID-19 Exposure Notifications

Apple has released a new beta of iOS 13.5 for developers, including the first version of its exposure notification API for COVID-19 contact tracing. which developers inside public health authorities globally will have access to.

For those who have the iOS 13.5 beta installed, they can turn on the feature by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Health > COVID-19 Exposure Notifications.

Google has delivered the functionality to Android developers in a Google Play update, and is seeding the SDK privately to select developers.

Both Google and Apple say that they will release more information, including code examples, to assist developers on Friday. The pair also note that they will add additional authorized developers across the testing period.

On Face ID-enabled iPhones, it is slightly more difficult to unlock your phone while wearing a face mask. With this update, Face ID will recognize the mask and automatically prompt you to enter your passcode, rather than waiting for Face ID to time out.

Users now have the option to turn off Group FaceTime’s dynamic zoom effect, which automatically enlarges a participants window when they speak. Instead, users can select which person to focus on by tapping on a new static window interface.
