BlackBerry starts rollout of BlackBerry Priv OS Maintenance Release

BlackBerry has announced that it has started the rollout of the first OS Maintenance release for the BlackBerry Priv.

The first maintenance release is available today to all PRIVs purchased through ShopBlackBerry. Carrier-purchased PRIVs will see the rollout starting on December 7.

The update, which brings productivity AND security improvements (and requires approx 475 MB of space), brings:

  • An improved camera: BlackBerry have implemented a number of tweaks that improve the speed of the camera app, and re-tuned it for better low-light image quality.
  • Better performance: The PRIV’s software has been tweaked to improve overall system performance
  • Improved stability: The update further includes a number of adjustments designed to improve device reliability and reduce instances of crashing and freezing.
  • Enhanced security: Lastly, the release includes December’s security patches.

BlackBerry also announced upcoming updates to the Blackberry Keyboard, Blackberry Hub, Blackberry Camera, and DTEK by BlackBerry apps, which will all receive an update on December 14. Updates will be available through the Google Play Store.

The improvements include:

  • Camera: Great new filters to engage your artistic side
  • Keyboard: Increased language support and emojis added to predictive typing
  • Hub & Contacts: Now includes WhatsApp
  • DTEK by BlackBerry: More notification options to alert you when apps use your info
