Energizer to reveal 26 new phones at MWC, including a foldable smartphone

Energizer will reveal 26 new smartphones and feature phones at Mobile World Congress 2019. Among the new releases are a foldable smartphone, a new line of high-end phones, and a device equipped with an 18,000 mAh battery.

The phones are made by French company Avenir Telecom, which has been selling low-spec phones for years under the Energizer license.

The 26 new Energizer devices on display will show off a range of features, from popup cameras, to professional scanning functionality in their rugged phones, a foldable smartphone, and a 18,000 mAh mobile battery (the largest capacity battery yet seen in a commercially-available smartphone).

“By offering high-performance, quality phones at affordable prices, we are responding to the growing demand for entry-level and mid-range smartphones. In particular, this market positioning lets us focus on catering to regions of the world experiencing rapid growth, where demand for these kinds of products is high, and which represent a strategic path for our development” stated Jean-Daniel Beurnier, CEO of Avenir Telecom.

“The release of a fourth line of elegant, innovative and reasonably-priced smartphones broadens the catalogue of products that we can offer our partners, which in turn will allow them to satisfy the demands of consumers in their local regions.”

The first phones we know about are the Ultimate U620S Pop and the U630S Pop; they share some of the same features between them. They both have dual pop-up selfie cameras to avoid having the notch that so many smartphone users despise.

The pop-up notch has dual cameras with a 16MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Despite what you might think for the naming conventions of the two devices, the Energizer Ultimate U620S Pop is the more premium of the devices.

It packs a 6.2-inch 1080p+screen and uses a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset inside along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. When that runs out, there is a MicroSD card slot as well.

On the back is a triple rear camera setup that includes 16MP, 5MP, and 2MP sensors. The assumption is that the 2MP unit is a depth sensor, the 16MP sensor will be the main camera, and it is a mystery right now what the 5MP sensor is for. The smartphone has a side-mounted fingerprint reader and packs a 3,200 mAh battery inside that supports fast charging tech; the phone is said to launch in July.

The Energizer Ultimate U630S Pop has a 6.3-inch screen and 720p+ resolution; it uses a Helio P22 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It has a 3,500 mAh battery and has a dual rear camera system using 16MP and 2MP sensors. The fingerprint reader is on the side of this device too. The U630S Pop has a hump on the back that appears to align with the pop-up selfie camera; the smartphone will launch in June.

The Energizer Ultimate U650S will have a 6.5-inch screen with 720p+ resolution, and a waterdrop notch with a 16MP selfie camera. The rear cameras are 16MP and 2MP units, and it uses a Helio P22 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A microSD card slot is integrated, and power is from a 3,500 mAh battery with fast charging via USB-C; the launch date is set for October on this one.

Next up is the Energizer Ultimate U620S; it differs from the Ultimate U620S Pop in that it has no pop-up selfie camera. This one has a 6.2-inch 720p+ screen, and a waterdrop notch 16MP selfie camera, along with dual 16MP and 2MP cameras out back.

The chipset is a MediaTek MT6765, and it has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The phone has a giant 4,000mAh battery and will come in purple/blue or blue/green gradients; launch is set for June. This device has a headphone port.

The last of the devices we have details on now is the Energizer Ultimate U570S; it’s the smallest of these devices with a 5.7-inch screen offering 720p+ resolution. It has a front notch that is U-shaped with a 16MP selfie camera and rear 16MP and 2MP dual camera sensors.

It uses an unspecified quad-core processor and 32GB of storage. Power is from a 3,000 mAh internal battery, and it has a headphone port. This phone and the U620S above are the only two that have headphone ports of the series.

This smartphone will launch in April with a purple/blue gradient, blue, and yellow colour options. No pricing information is offered on any of the devices, but these shouldn’t be expensive smartphones.

All of these new models will be available to try out at the Energizer  Mobile booth at the Congress Square Hall (#CS 96) from the 25th to the 28th of February 2019 in Barcelona.
