Kobo has announced the Aura H2O, a waterproof ebook reader. Announced today before an introduction at IFA next week, the Kobo Aura H2O is dustproof to keep the sand out and waterproof to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes.
Kobo Aura H2O is the first premium eReader to have a waterproof and dustproof design that allows you to take it worry-free from the beach, to the bath, to your bed. Plus, with up to 2 months of battery life, you have the freedom to keep reading, wherever you go.
Kobo Aura H2O has an extra-large, no-glare 6.8†Carta E Ink touchscreen that reads like print on paper – even in direct sunlight. With ClarityScreen+, you will get a high definition reading experience, with crisp, clear text for easy reading. Plus, with its fully adjustable ComfortLight directing light at the page and not your eyes, eyestrain is minimized day or night. The screen is the highest resolution of any ebook reader on the market, including the Amazon Kindle, and measures 1430 x 1080, producing 265 dots per inch to ensure text is sharper and more legible than on its rivals.
That display measures 6.8 inches from corner to corner and has a built in backlight for reading in the dark. Power comes from a 1GHz processor with half a gigabyte of RAM and there’s 4GB of storage – although this can be increased by up to 32GB, or enough for 30,000 ebooks, via a microSD card slot.
Battery life is up to two months, based on 30 minutes of reading every day, while Kobo’s unique apps include Reading Life and Reading Stats to help you keep track of your reading and share progress on Facebook.
The Kobo store offers more than four million books, comics and magazines, while compatibility with a broad range of ebook file types – including EPUB, PDF, MOBI and many more – means you can read books from many sources on the Aura H2O. With 4GB of onboard memory, you can carry up to 3,000 eBooks and with expandable memory, store up to 30,000 with a micro SD card.
The Aura H2O costs £139.99 and will go on sale in the UK on 1 October, with pre-orders opening at Kobo.com from 1 September.
