One feature that most OnePlus smartphone users have been waiting for is wireless charging, a feature that the company is yet to introduce. However, it would appear this feature may finally be implemented on its upcoming flagship smartphones.
However, whether the upcoming OnePlus 8 lineup will have the feature or not is still uncertain.
OnePlus is now officially a member of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the promoter group of various wireless charging standards. This implies that future OnePlus devices could also support wireless charging.
The WPC is one of the largest standards development groups with more than 500 member companies worldwide, which works to achieve worldwide compatibility of all wireless chargers and wireless power sources. The applications mainly include three interface standards: Qi, wireless cooker and medium power.
Qi wireless charging is the most popular standard for inductive charging in smartphones. It uses a loading platform that can load compatible devices when placed on it.
The group already has smartphone manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Google, Xiaomi, etc. as members and being a full member is a requirement to use any of the charging standards mentioned above.
